A perfect dress awaits for your dream wedding with Couture by Tess Bridal | Tess Mann

With so many moving parts to a wedding, feeling your best in your wedding gown will take off a lot of stress.  Every woman’s body is different, so what looks one way on one person, may not look the same on someone else.  There are many details involved in the overall design that will affect the look of the silhouette created.  It is best to research dress styles before a wedding consultation, but also keep an open mind.  Highlight a silhouette’s most flattering features while keeping in mind the dress will be worn for several hours making comfort a key component.  Ultimately, the bride’s confidence is what matters most with her happiness shining as bright as her smile on the most special day of her life.

Petite Frame

The goal with a petite frame is to elongate the figure.  A column-like sheath or an A-line dress will create the illusion of height.  Another trick is choosing a style of dress with a waistline that hits right above your natural waist making you appear taller.  Try to avoid dresses with too much volume as it can be a bit overwhelming on a smaller physique.  Steer clear of drop-waist cuts and calf-length styles as this can make legs seem shorter.

Tall Physique

If you are a person of height, stay away from high necklines as it can elongate the body even more.  A lower waistline, a floor-sweeping hem and a long veil are all great options for a taller stature. Too many details and embellishments may draw attention to height, so it is best to keep this to a minimum.  Consider wearing your hair down as an updo can add more height.  Mermaid gowns work well with some height.  If choosing a mermaid gown, keep in mind that shapewear is important for being able to move about freely.

Pear-Shaped

A classic A-line silhouette will emphasize a small waistline while using a non-clingy fabric on the bottom.  Choosing a skirt crafted from a sea of tulle will add drama and sweeping coverage to accomplish a beautiful silhouette.  Selecting a dress with a beaded bodice or waistline will draw the eyes upwards.  Corset bodices will also accentuate the upper body, especially with an off-the-shoulder top. Sheath-like gowns with clingy fabrics can be unflattering on a pear shape.  Consider sturdy fabrics such as taffeta or satin for very formal weddings, while lace is a good option for more casual weddings.  Skirts crafted of a sea of tulle will add drama and sweeping coverage.

Apple-Shaped

Choose a bodice that highlights your waist and pair with a full skirt to create an hourglass shape.  Fabric ruching and corset or corset-like tops are popular options for apple-shaped figures.   A deep v-neck will help slenderize by drawing eyes vertically.  You can avoid adding bulk by not choosing puff or cap sleeves.  Remember, trumpet-style dresses emphasize the widest part of the body and flare out at the most slender part of the body, adding bulk.

Full-Figure

An empire waist with a skirt that begins just under the bust is a flattering option for curvy body types.  Asymmetrical ruching that wraps around the waist can add a narrower appearance.  Avoid a slinky cut or slim sheath as these styles tend to be the most unflattering silhouettes for full figures. Spaghetti straps or strapless designs will offer no support for a full bust.  Consider a cape to drape over your shoulders. Capes create a cinematic effect and regal silhouette.
