The Leadership Challenge, a book written by James Kouzes and Barry Z. Posner states leadership in the following 5 practices aptly called “The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership” as follows : 

  • Find your voice by clarifying your personal values.
  • Set the example by aligning actions with shared values.

 

  • Envision the future.
  • Enlist others in a common vision by appealing to shared aspirations.

 

  • Search for opportunities [for change].
  • Experiment and take risks constantly.
  • Foster collaboration.
  • Strengthen others by sharing power and discretion.
  • Recognize contributions.
  • Celebrate values and victories.
