Fashion & Beauty Digital Content Creator / Blogger / Influencer
After all, none of us are ever just one thing.
As an Indian born and brought up in the United States, understanding my identity and place has been one of the most confusing aspects of growing up. In some circumstances, I’m seen as too ethnic, and in others, I’m not ethnic enough because some of my thought processes are “Americanized.” For as long as I can remember, my means of discovering myself and claiming who I am has been through clothes and makeup. These are powerful mediums, because when you enter a room, they speak even before you do. It’s beautiful that just by adding a touch of your favorite jhumkis (a form of South Asian earrings) to an everyday outfit, you can manifest the thought that you can indeed stand tall in both identities–as an American and as an Indian.
Thinking back to when I started creating fashion and beauty content online, I believe it was because I didn’t see a viewpoint like mine represented in these spaces. And clearly, there is an appetite for it–I wake up every day to messages from young girls sharing how seeing me share my experiences, successes, and truths inspires them immensely. So, indeed, the nuances that come with my dual identity can be further explored through sharing bits of who I am, but my hope is that anyone who lands on my page feels more empowered within their own identity, regardless of how multifaceted it is. After all, none of us are ever just one thing.
